My MFA thesis project looks at the abstraction of the body. I am interested in breaking form down into formlessness so that nothing remains of the recognizable figure, only remains of component parts. This is linked to the concept of physical decay and questions whether we are merely the sum of our physical parts or do we transcend the physical. Philosophy, theology and poetry form an intellectual basis to my current work as well as the work of artists such as Raphael Collazo who successfully fused symbolism with gesture.
